In 2021, we celebrated International Women’s Day in a brand new way and were so proud of the excitement and support our 2021 #IWD campaign inspired.
We called on the community to nominate the bloody great women in their lives for our first ever International Women’s Day Honour Roll – and raise funds for our bloody great cause at the same time.
120 nominations were received for bloody great women - and what a fantastic way to celebrate women’s achievements. Now each of these nominees can proudly say “I’m a Bloody Great Woman” – and they have a Certificate to prove it!

Alice Kang -Alice is well known through City of Canada Bay having worked at Concord Hospital for over 40 years, many of them as Director of Marketing and Community Relations. Now retired from the hospital Alice works as Director to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway. She is focused on the welfare and acknowledgment of our veterans.

Justine Perkins -Justine and her husband John formed the Touched By Olivia Foundation in early 2007 in memory of their daughter Olivia. Following the opening of the first Livvi’s Place at Timbrell Park Five Dock in 2009 they have partnered with councils, developers, corporates and recently with Variety, to create more than 24 inclusive playspaces across Australia.

Anne Burt -Anne was heavily involved with cricket at Briars Sporting Club before introducing junior netball in 2012. It is testament to her dedication that Briars Netball has registered around 40 modified juniors and seniors teams in the Inner West Netball Association. Katey Grimshaw -Katey has 5 children at home, one disabled and her husband is in the Navy and often away. She self-funds the foster of cats and dogs and is often finding animals abandoned on her doorstep. When she discovered I was about to become a grandmother, she hand-knitted a garment to give me. We rarely see people with such caring and nurturing dispositions.

Diane Brown -Diane is a member of Friends of Cabarita Park and Wharf. She advocated for improvements at the wharf including additional car spaces, a marked pedestrian crossing and better lighting. Anastasia Pilatos -I nominate this amazing lady Anastasia Pilatos, my beautiful mum. The late Sarah Nelson (1768-1817) -Convict-wife, mother, farmer and land holder. In 1794, she was granted 15 acres known as Nelson Farm (in today’s Malvern Hill Estate, Croydon) confirming her as Burwood’s first free settler. Her story is one of courage, resourcefulness, hard work and determination. Until the discovery of her burial site at Liverpool in late 2020, her story had largely been forgotten.

Margaret (Ritchie) Lewin -My hero, my guide, my rock. Beautiful, talented sportswoman, intelligent, pragmatic, humble, selfless, caring, committed, transparent, REAL!! Diagnosed with cancer nearly 10 years ago she did everything to fight it including multiple major surgeries, radiotherapy & 2 years of immunotherapy. No matter how bad the treatment or the side effects, there was no panic, no complaints - she just got on with it. Thanks Mum for being a survivor... I needed you.
