22 August 2023International Women’s Day Breakfast 2024
22 March 2024On Wednesday 18th October, Dr Nicole Wong Doo and the Concord Hospital Haematology Department hosted a Patient and Carer’s Education day at Concord Hospital Medical Education Centre. Over 130 patients and their carers attended, receiving a warm Welcome to Country by local Kamilaroi Elder who is one of Concord’s successfully treated leukaemia patients.
Thank you to all the patients, carers, medical staff and volunteers for making this such a successful day. Many patients commented on how educational and stimulating the day was. They were very impressed with the entire Haematology’s team effort to deliver such an informative event filled with positive and supportive energy.
During the morning sessions, patients heard from a team of over 12 doctors, nurses, and researchers covering, all the latest updates on blood diseases, how the Unit works and the importance of nutrition, exercise and psychological support before, during and after treatment.
The Patient Day was proudly sponsored by The Foundation for A Bloody Great Cause who supported the Unit in marketing the event, raising awareness for research and clinical trials and providing a delicious lunch and morning/afternoon tea enjoyed by all.
The afternoon sessions were divided between specific disease lectures, which patients could attend and a Q & A with patients currently on clinical trials, all sessions were extremely well received by the attendees.
The continual support of all the Foundation donors enables the Foundation to sponsor these patient education events and we look forward to welcoming as many participants to the 2024 Education Day.
